"Compact power that lasts all day" 2009-12-08
By J. Ralls (Fremont, CA USA)
This little wonder is a great jobsite drill/driver. It's small and light enough to fit in a tool-belt bag. The battery has enough charge so that the two it comes with last the whole day, with plenty left over. It has plenty of power for most home-building jobs short of driving lag bolts, and the little headlight is great for setting screws in dark recesses.

My only complaint is that the various manufacturers of similar tools didn't standardize their battery packs, so pick the brand that has the right combination of other tools for the work you do.

 "Powerful small drill" 2009-12-07
By J. Seidel (so. harwich, MA USA)

I have several other Miwaukee power tools which have served well and this new small drill keeps up the tradition. It has good torque, holds a good battery charge and is comfortable to use. The power reserve indicator is a nice touch and although other drills have built in LED lights, this one is well aimed at the point of contact with the work. Very nice package.

 "Excellent little drill" 2009-11-30
By Peter Headland (San Mateo, CA United States)
I have a small, but growing, set of the Milwaukee M12 tools. This drill has plenty of punch for its size, but be aware that it cannot compare to an 18V lithium drill. The trade off is that it weighs much less and fits into smaller spaces.

"GREAT size - no power." 2009-10-09
By Mark Dalzell (Jersey City, NJ)
I'm a luthier and use power tools every day, but I don't need contractor level power, so I went for this drill as a compromise. The size is great... fits in your hand nicely, doesn't take up much space on my shelf and doesn't have that giant battery pack like everything does nowadays.

I charged it up overnight and gave it a little stress test, since one thing it needs to do is occasionally turn forstner bits through solid hardwood. I turned the torque up to maximum, set it on high speed, held onto the chuck and pulled the trigger. It turned a few times, then some automatic clutch shut it off, and I noticed a bit of smoke coming out of the back. It didn't burn itself out... may have just been oil burning off... but it has NO power... It was supposed to replace a 6-year old 12v Porter Cable, but there's no comparison. I returned it and purchased the 18V version which seems to be great so far... albeit with the big battery 'foot'.

On another note - why do all modern power tools have to look like a nike cross trainer? Are all the wacky colors and stripes and flanges and ridges supposed to make me feel cool? Just make me a damn black drill that doesn't look like a running shoe.

R.I.P. black and gray Porter Cable. You were too beautiful for this world.

 "Nice Product so far" 2009-09-12
By R. Gettler (Leesburg, VA)
I just purchased this product a few days ago, and so far it has met all of my expectations. It is typical Milwaukee, like all my other Milwaukee tools. My DeWalt 1/2 cordless impact drill/driver is starting to have brush issues, seemingly somewhat prematurely, although it did work well so far. I decided on the smaller Milwaukee 3/8" drill/driver after seeing that nice little rapid charging lithium battery pack at Home Depot one day. It won't replace the 1/2" vibrating drill needs, but rather fill a gap when a smaller light weight job comes up. Besides, I can get out the corded Makita for that anyway... If this tool turns out like the 2 sawsalls, portable band saw, drywall driver, 2 circular saws, dovetail jig, etc... This will be a great tool.
